I got to go to church this morning for the very first time. It was interesting and I really enjoyed it. My puppy raiser family goes to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Norwood, North Carolina. It is not a really big church but there are a good amount of people who attend it.

There were a couple of wheelchairs there, lots of children and adults, piano sounds, and a Baptism ceremony. I liked to see the people pass by our pew while everyone was greeting and shaking hands with each other and some of the children came over to greet me too! It was a new adventure for me and I hope to be back soon. I stayed at my mom's feet the whole ceremony and she said I did very good for my first time. I always like to hear her tell me what a good job I have done. I really like it here with my puppy raiser family.

First Puppy Meeting

I got to go to my very first puppy obedience meeting last night in New London, North Carolina. We meet at a church and this is where our obedience meetings are conducted.

I got to practice walking up and down the sidewalk while traffic was going by and I wasn't even scared. Then, my puppy raiser and I practiced going up and down stairs and ramps. She is teaching me to sit each time when I come to stairs and when I get to the top/bottom of the stairs. It wasn't hard to do. I also got to be the distraction while the big dogs practiced down-stays and walked around food bowls with food in them.

I had fun and really enjoyed getting to see the puppies I had already met and meeting new ones. There are a lot of puppies in our group. There is Hugh, Duchess, Dexter, Dave, Riley-Jack, Legion, Sandy, Rudy, and of course,me, Cameron.

IFT news

We all just found out that my brother Hugh is going IFT in November 2nd-5th. I know he will do great. I will miss him, though. I wish him well, though. Until then, I will spend as much time with him as I can and curl up next to him as often as I can. He is my favorite dog to curl up with.

11 weeks old

I am now 11 weeks old! My mom says I am growing so fast. I already look a little taller.

I have learned a lot so far. My first obedience meeting is this Thursday night. I will be attending with my big brother, Hugh. He will show me the ropes. I get to be a distraction that night along with the other babies in the group. Can't wait to go and see my new friends again.I might even make more new friends.

Photos of Hugh, Mom, and I

Here are some photos of my mom, brother, and me. I love it when my mom holds me so I can give her puppy kisses. She really likes that. I love to sleep with my big brother, Hugh. He keeps me warm. He lets me play with him but lets me know when I am too rough. I have fun in my house, though.

Puppy hugs and kisses,

Practicing Obedience

This is my mom and I practicing some obedience training. This is my down-stay in the left picture and my mom trying to get me to go down in the right picture.

My brother, Hugh, was trying to practice his obedience with us. He followed moms every word and showed me what to do. Boy, he is good at this. Maybe I can be as good as he is one day. Mom says I will be.

We practiced my recall ('come'). I did really good.

Here is a photo of Hugh working in his harness. I
am sitting behind mom observing. Hmmm...

Off To The Mall

It has been a couple of days since I have written. I have been sooo busy playing with my mom and dad's nieces and nephew this week (ages 5, 2 1/2, and 6 1/2months). They wear me out, but they are fun. I had to rest for the remainder of the evening so I will be ready for the next day.

But... on the other hand,

Today was an exciting adventure for me. I got to go to the mall for the first time. We went to Carolina mall in Concord, North Carolina. It was full of people, strollers, noises, and smells...oh yeah lets not forget my four new puppy friends. Their names are Duchess (Hugh's sister), Riley-Jack (sister to Legion), Legion (brother to Riley-Jack), and Dexter (Hugh's brother).
I got to meet a blind girl today, too. She is part of my puppy group. She is so nice.

First at the meeting we practiced some obedience training and sidewalk practice. There were cars going by in the parking lot and lots of people came to look at us. They really enjoyed watching us work and getting to give us puppy hugs. That was fun but it was a little hot outside so we decided to go into the air conditioning for more exposures.

Inside, we walked around in Belk to some of the clothes racks where our puppy raisers moved clothes around on the racks to let us hear the noise that they sometimes make. We all did great. We then went into the portion of the mall just outside of the Belk doors where there were benches and we practiced the down-under command. We walked down the mall to a kiddie ride and watched it spin round and round. I liked that. It was a neat thing to watch (if you have never seen one before). We practiced sitting at stairs indside the mall, and while the big kids got to go to a childrens' area, we little ones needed to step outdoors for just a minute (you know what we had to do).

We all met up with each other in the food court and some people ate lunch, but we mostly just rested and talked for a while. Riley-Jack, Hugh, and I played for just a minute under the table. I like Riley-Jack. She is just my size but a few weeks older than I am. I got to play with Legion a little, too and I liked him as well. Riley-Jacks' puppy raiser dad, my puppy raiser mom, her daughter, and my mom's mother-in-law all sat at the table talking for a little bit while Riley-Jack, Hugh, and I all slept under the table.

We get lots of attention when we go out. A lot of people come look at us, pet us, and ask questions about the program. Our puppy raisers will try to educate the public on the programs and proper guide dog greeting etiquette. We puppies are just so darn cute that we attract so many people. Who could resist a cute puppy face?

What a fun day it was! Whew! Now I am tired and ready to go home to rest. I hope we do that again, I really enjoyed all the attention.

I fell asleep under the table. I was a tired puppy.

Hugh wearing a harness instead of the puppy coat. When we dogs get to a certain age (approximately 12 months), we get to wear the guide dog harness just to get used to the way it feels on our back.

This is Duchess laying under the table while her puppy raiser gets a bite to eat. Duchess looks just like Hugh, but is a little smaller.

This is Riley-Jack. She and Legion are 14 weeks old. Legion is bigger than her and is a yellow puppy.

That is all for today. I think it is time to go to bed.

My First Outing

This is a picture of me while I am riding in the car to the grocery store. My puppy raiser mom let me ride in the front floorboard where there is cool air while the baby gets to ride in the backseat.

I just got my coat on and now it is time to go in and see what people do in a grocery store. I wonder what I will see and smell. About to find out....

I get to wait in line while my mom pays for the food. It smells so good in here and I gets lots of attention, too! Can't wait to come back again.

I am making more new friends today. I am learning how to play with the kitties, big dogs, and the little baby. Everything is so new am I am very curious. My puppy raisers say I am doing a very good job with potty training and learning how to play with the baby. I think I am going to like it here.

I like to play, but I also love to sleep.

A Few Pictures

First Day Home

Hi, I'm Cameron, a Southeastern Guide Dog Puppy. I've been at Southeastern in Palmetto, Florida since I was born. I am now 9 weeks old and am ready to go to my puppy raiser family.

My puppy raisers, Amanda and Daniel, live in North Carolina, and are part of the Albemarle Puppy Raiser group. Amanda and her mother-in-law picked me up yesterday, so today is my first day in my new home. As puppy raisers, they will introduce me to as many things as they can, and teach me basic obedience. I share my home with 2 cats (Magic and Killer), 2 inside dogs (Hugh, another Southeastern Guide dog puppy in training, and Bristol, another vizsla), Biscuit the outside dog, my owners, and their baby girl Dixie.

Ok, time for me to socialize with everyone and get used to the new sights and scents.
